Kamarul is the Founder and Group CEO of Aerodyne Group,
a Malaysian-founded drone solutions provider ranked first in
the world by Drone Industry Insights of Germany. He led Aerodyne
from a 3-person start-up in 2014 to a global company with a
presence in 35 countries in just 6 years.
Kamarul is the "EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2020",
"EY Technology Entrepreneur ofthe Year 2020 Malaysia",
"Technode Global’s Startup Leader of the Year 2021", and
"SEBA Entrepreneur of the Year 2020". He also holds many
distinguished positions; member of the Economic Action Council,
the Digital Economy and 4IR Policy Council, the Bumiputera
Prosperity Council, the Board of Directors of Bank Negara Malaysia and Forbes Councils.
He is a TEDx speaker, and a drone industry thought leader who has
presented his ideas and innovations on AI, drones, and Industry 4.0
around the world. He is also an Adjunct Professor at University Putra
Malaysia and Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor.
Kamarul is a thinker and futurist with a deep passion for human history,
astronomy, theoretical physics, and technology. A nonconformist, he often
ponders how the technology of the future will advance humanity towards equality
and freedom. He is a seasoned traveller who has visited over 100 countries
and flown his personal drones in places such as the Russian steppes,
Iceland’s glaciers and lava fields,the European alps, the Himalayas, America,
South Africa, Nigeria, Sudan, Japan, Australia, and more.

Since 1990, he has been researching ubiquitous computing, IoT (Internet of Things), embedded systems, human-computer interactions, and computer networks. Currently, his main research interests are data spaces, IoT, smart city, smart building, blockchain, operating systems, and computer networks. He is also a chair of Data Society Alliance, and International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) Japan Hub Coordinator.

Professor Shandre M. Thangavelu is currently the Head of Jeffrey Cheah Institute for Southeast Asia and Senior Fellow
at Jeffrey Sachs Centre for Sustainable Development at Sunway University, Malaysia. He also holds a joint appointment at the Institute
of International Trade, University of Adelaide, Australia. In October 2021, Professor Shandre was appointed as Trade Advisor to
Minister of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce, Kingdom of Cambodia under the Royal Degree. He was awarded (with Jeffrey Cheah Institute
for Southeast Asia, Sunway University), the Award of the Royal Order of Sowathara by the Royal Government of Cambodia on 31 January 2023
for his contribution to economic development and trade of Cambodia. The Award was given by the Minister of Commerce and endorsed by the
King of Cambodia and Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
Previously, Professor Shandre Thangavelu was appointed as the Head of Research at Ministry of Manpower under the Economist Service at the
Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore from 2001 to 2009. Professor Shandre Thangavelu was also appointed into the Governing Board for
the Work, Safety, Health Institute (WSHI) of Singapore. He is also the member of the Competition Commission Appeal Board in Singapore.
Shandre Thangavelu was the Managing Editor for Asian Economic Journal (AEJ) in 2009 and currently appointed as the Editor in 2018. He was also
appointed as the Fellow of Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) in 2017.
Professor Shandre Thangavelu is an active researcher on human capital development, technology transfer, foreign direct investment, trade,
government infrastructure investment, productivity and economic growth. He has written extensively in ASEAN integration, FDI, human capital development,
technology transfer and economic growth and has published his research in major international journals. He has written several books on trade, investment,
integration and outsourcing in Asia. Recently, Professor Shandre has completed the book titled “Handbook of East Asian Economic Integration” 2021
(with Fukunari Kimura, Mari Pangestu, and Christopher Findlay) published by Edward Elgar. As part of policy research to support ASEAN integration,
he released a monograph titled “Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership: Implications, Challenges and Future Growth of ASEAN and East Asia”,
2022 (with Fukunari Kimura and Dionisius A. Narjoko), as part of Cambodia ASEAN Chairmanship in February 2022 in Phnom Penh.
He has also worked on several international projects commissioned by UNDP, World Bank, ASEAN Secretariat, APEC, and Asian Productivity Organization (APO).
Currently, he is working on human capital dynamics and FDI activities in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam and Indonesia. Professor Shandre Thangavelu obtained
his graduate degrees from Queen’s University, Canada.
